Chartered accountancy is one of the well-reputed and prestigious courses in India. The ca course exams are conducted and managed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. A student can become eligible to appear for ca intermediate exams through any of the two options:
- By clearing the CA foundation examination - After the 10+2 examination, a student is eligible to register for the foundation course.
- Or, through the direct entry route - commerce graduate/post-graduate with at least 55% marks or any other graduate/post graduate with a least 60% marks. Also, any student who has cleared the foundation level exam of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India/ Institute of Cost Accountants of India is eligible to register under the intermediate course.
Points to be noted for direct entry route:
- Get registered under the ca intermediate course
- Have to undergo ICITSS and orientation programme before the commencement of articleship
- Register for the 3years of practical training
- Complete articleship of 9 months to be eligible to write ca intermediate exams
If a student fulfills any of the above criteria can register online under the ca intermediate course by visiting the institute's website. After registration, a student gets eight months to study.
Ca intermediate: Syllabus
The ca intermediate exams consist of two groups and eight subjects, consisting of four subjects in each group. A student can appear for both groups in an attempt or any single group of their choice.
Group 1 comprises four subjects:
Paper 1: Accounting
Paper 2: Corporate and Other Laws
Paper 3: Cost and Management Accounting
Paper 4: Taxation
And Group 2 also includes four papers:
Paper 5: Advanced Accounting
Paper 6: Auditing and Assurance
Paper 7: Enterprise Information Systems and Strategic Management
Paper 8: Financial Management and Economics for Finance
A single subject consists of a total of 100 marks in ca course, and the time allowed to answer the paper is 3 hours. A candidate requires 50% aggregate marks in a group to clear the intermediate exams and at least 40% marks in each subject. In 4 out of 8 subjects the question paper consists of 30% objective questions Law, Taxation, Auditing and EIS&SM.
